Dr. Spier Saves a Life

Below are the recent events that transpired that lead to the saving of someone's life by our very own Dr. Spier:

On Friday, August 30th a man in his mid 70’s experienced a heart attack while playing tennis on court 13 in Central Park. When asked if I knew a doctor I pointed to my tennis partner Dr. Bernie Spier. Dr. Spier (an opthalmologist practicing in New Jersey) trained in CPR ran to the stricken man and assisted the park police by performing mouth to mouth resuscitation for approximately 15 minutes until the EMS arrived. According to Dr. Spier the man survived the attack and is recovering in the hospital. I believe that Dr. Spier’s spontaneous and professional action helped to save the man’s life. Given that the US Open is currently underway (signifying the most important time of the year for tennis in New York) I think this story is both timely and a uniquely New York story.
