Cataract Prevention
Cataracts are defined as the clouding of the lens of the eyes, in such a way that it affects vision. The most common cause of cataracts is aging, and research has proven that cataracts are among the top causes of blindness in Americans. To do our part to help change these statistics, we've listed some the ways you can prevent NJ Cataract Surgery.
-
Visit your eye doctor on a regular basis
Even if you don't wear prescription glasses, it's a good idea to have your vision checked on a regular basis. Eye exams will not only help you see better, but they also act as an early warning system for identifying the symptoms of cataracts at an earlier age.
-
Wear sunglasses when outdoors
Research shows how important it is to shield your eyes from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Ultraviolet light from the sun can contribute to the development of cataracts, so it’s wise to wear sunglasses when you’re planning on being outdoors for an extended period of time. And if you don’t have a pair handy, a wide brimmed hat is an acceptable substitute.
-
Watch what you ingest
A balanced diet and a well-maintained intake of vitamins, Vitamin C and E in particular, can help delay the formation of cataracts, thanks to their beneficial properties.
Once a cataract has been detected, the options for treatment include NJ Cataract Surgery. The procedure deals with removing the cloudy part of the lens in the eye and replacing it with an artificial lens. But let’s all agree to avoid this less-than-desirable outcome! The preventive measures listed above are easy and painless – just a minor shift in behavior can have a major, positive impact on your life. And your eyes will surely thank you!
